What is diabetes?

Diabetes currently affects 246 million people worldwide and is expected to affect 380 million by the year 2025.1 Although diabetes affects about 4 % of the world population , two people only know very little about this disease .
There are two main types of diabetes :
Type 1 diabetes occurs when the immune system destroys beta cells in the pancreas that create insulin. As a result , the body produces too little insulin or none. People who have type 1 diabetes need insulin to manage their day . Type 1 diabetes is sometimes called juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes .
Type 2 diabetes occurs when the pancreas does not secrete enough insulin or when the body can not properly use the insulin it creates . Eventually , the pancreas can not get to the secret no insulin . Type 2 diabetes can affect people of any age. Both women and men , the more overweight is higher, so there is a greater risk of developing type 2 diabetes .
